Hace unos dias tuvimos la oportunidad de entrevistar al vocalista de la banda Mexicana, "Cardio Kazan". En esta entrevista Eder nos habla acerca de su última producción "The Baralax" y acerca de la grabación del disco. Disfruten la entrevista, ya saben solo por Atasque.

1. Cuéntanos, ¿por qué el nombre "Cardio Kazan"?
Es una historia futbolera. En los primeros ensayos donde apenas estábamos arrojando la idea que queríamos implementar en este proyecto, un día estaban pasando por televisión un juego de la famosa “Champions League” donde el partido iba realizarse en Rusia, específicamente en la ciudad de Kazan. El equipo de casa era el Rubin Kazan. Antes de iniciar el partido, iniciaron a pasar tomas de los aficionados en el estadio y me llamo la atención que uno de ellos estaba levantando una bufanda hacia arriba la cual tenía la leyenda “Cardio Kazan” con un corazón en medio. Curiosamente el narrador explico que lo que quería decir esa bufanda es que el corazón del aficionado se encontraba con la ciudad de Kazan o bien con el equipo.
2. Hace pocas semanas ha sido lanzado “The Baralax”, ¿cómo ha sido la respuesta que han recibido de parte de sus seguidores?
¡Increíble!, mejor de lo que hubiéramos imaginado. Más que nada porque duramos exactamente un año en poderlo entregar después de haberlo grabado por cuestiones totalmente fuera de nuestras manos, estamos hablando que el proceso de grabación y entrega fue desde Enero 2013, año y medio exactamente siendo esto lo más preocupante para nosotros, ya que no sabíamos si existiría la paciencia suficiente de nuestros seguidores, pero al final todo ha salido mejor de lo esperado, al final nos dimos cuenta que somos afortunados de contar con un apoyo envidiable del cual estamos totalmente agradecidos.
3. Qué proyectos tienen para el futuro, ¿piensan grabar algún vídeo?
¡Si!, de hecho acabamos de grabar un vídeo para una rola del disco, ¡esperamos que sea del agrado de todos!
4. En Atasque fueron la banda del mes, ¿cómo se siente que muchas personas o blogs te apoyen con tan solo poco tiempo de haber salido el álbum?
Sin palabras, específicamente la gente de Atasque ha sido increíble con nosotros. Hay una escena con mucho talento en nuestro país, pero el hecho de que nuestra música ha podido llegar a tantos oídos en México siendo, digamos un CORE diferente al de las demás bandas, en gran medida ha sido por el apoyo de ellos y de páginas como Mexicore que desde hace mucho tiempo han estado con nosotros en el camino.
5. La pregunta del millón, ¿cuál es la técnica que usas para hacer tus voces limpias?
La técnica siempre será la respiración, pero la gran realidad es que todas las voces son diferentes. Al día de hoy, yo tengo ya 10 años encargado de alguna posición de canto en la música y te puedo decir que muchos mitos funcionan para algunos, muchas técnicas funcionan para otros. La realidad es que se tiene que experimentar los límites de tu voz y tomar los mejores tips y aplicar el que mejor funcione a la hora de cantar.
6. Cada canción es una maravilla, ¿cuál es el ingrediente en especial para lograr la combinación perfecta?
¡Gracias!, precisamente eso es lo que buscamos, que cada canción tenga absolutamente todo lo que nos gustaría escuchar siempre tratando de mezclar los gustos de cada uno de nosotros resultando al final una canción . Buscamos integrar esa fuerza o potencia del Metalcore o el Post Hardcore en cada composición sin olvidarnos de la parte melódica en las voces y guitarras. En nuestra mente, siempre hemos tenido muy presente que el CORE puede ser música escuchada por que cualquier persona que no esté acostumbrada a ello. Estamos en contra de los estereotipos y de los géneros que solo dividen, en Cardio buscamos precisamente poder encontrar un balance entre pesado y melódico, entre underground y comercial.
7. ¿Cuál es la canción favorita de la banda?
Difícil pregunta, porque yo mismo soy fan de Cardio Kazan y me gustan cada una de las rolas que al momento tenemos, pero te podría decir que In Slow Motion tiene un lugar muy especial en mi por ser la primer canción que compusimos como agrupación. De The Baralax , disfruto muchísimo Hellion.
8. Dinos, ¿qué problemas se presentaron en el camino durante la grabación del álbum?
Muchísimos! pero el más importante, y la razón por la cual la entrega del álbum estaba detenida, era el tema legal de Tim Lambesis en Estados Unidos. Es importante recordar que el disco fue grabado en LAMBESIS STUDIOS, donde el ex vocalista de As I Lay Dying era dueño hasta hace unos meses. Nuestra grabación se encontraba detenida por la autoridad, ya que estaba llevando una investigación de todo lo que tuviera relación con él, ese fue el mayor problema.
9. Tuvieron colaboraciones muy importantes, ¿qué se siente grabar con bandas como Adestria o TRJA?
Un honor sin duda, no te podría ser más. Por ejemplo, te estoy hablando que estuve obsesionado con la canción Face Down de The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus por años y era una de las favoritas en aquellos años lejanos para calentar antes de los ensayos. El tener a personas tan talentosas que han logrado tanto en sus carreras musicales en nuestro proyecto no tiene precio. Lo más importante es conocer esa parte humana al momento de trabajar con nosotros y darte cuenta que son unos músicos extraordinarios, pero mejores personas.
10. Cuéntanos cómo nació “The Baralax”, ¿qué ideas los motivaron a crear algo tan genial?
Cuando tomamos la decisión de grabar nuestro primer disco, después de 2 EP’S tuvimos muchas reuniones donde platicábamos que idea queríamos manejar en las nuevas canciones, que es lo que queríamos implementar esta vez y que camino queríamos que Cardio Kazan tuviera para esto, que fue el paso más grande e importante de nosotros como músicos. Al final decidimos que, tomando de referencia las canciones que tuvieron tan buena respuesta, teníamos que evolucionar pero sin perder nuestra esencia que nos ha definido desde el día uno. No queríamos sonar como una banda totalmente diferente, si no queríamos crecer musicalmente, que nuestro sonido se convirtiera más maduro. Tomamos 4 meses escribiendo las canciones trabajando todos los días, puliendo todos los detalles que considerábamos teníamos que explotar, y al final ahí está el resultado. Te podría decir que para nosotros “Euphoria” es la canción que define lo que buscábamos en este gran paso. Una evolución como banda, sin perder nuestras raíces que nos han permitido llegar a tantos oídos.
11. Que mensaje nos reflejas a través de las letras de “The Baralax”?
The Baralax es el resultado de muchas experiencias, buenas y malas, tanto de mi como de gente que quiero. Desde la fundación de la banda la idea de las letras es un resultado ambiguo, ya que si las analizas, veras que todas están escritas como si estuviera relatando o narrando un tráiler de alguna película ( soy fan del cine). Todas las letras están establecidas como introducción, trama y conclusión de una mini película en poco más de 3 minutos y medio. En estos “trailers” expongo experiencias en forma de metáforas buscando dejar mis pensamientos y situaciones que he vivido o he sido participe.
Por ejemplo, Ultraviolet Suspension pareciera como un tráiler de alguna película de ciencia ficción por las metáforas y referencias que utilizo, cuando en realidad estoy relatando del fallecimiento de mi Abuela en los ojos de mi Madre.
Recuerdo que para Colossal, tenía muy presente una película de Stanley Kubrick que había visto recientemente cuando inicie a escribirla. En la letra veras que se usan referencias de planetas y efectos astronómicos y otros temas diferentes en forma de metáforas para hablar que sin malas experiencias, malas situaciones en la vida jamás aprenderemos a estar en este mundo, ni la razón por la que estamos vivos, que el dejarnos caer por lo que nos pasa, sean situaciones gigantes o pequeñas, es una ofensa y un desperdicio a esta creación tan maravillosa que somos nosotros.
12. En un futuro, ¿con qué bandas les gustaría tocar?
La verdad con todas, tendremos la grandísima oportunidad de estar en varias ciudades en algunas semanas y poder compartir escenario con muchas bandas mexicanas con las que aún no hemos tenido oportunidad de tocar, así como volver a ver a amistades increíbles que hemos encontrado en el camino desde nuestro primer tour.
13. En cuanto al género, ¿qué bandas son las que te influencian a ti y a la banda?
Demasiadas siendo honesto, pero siempre Senses Fail, Saosin, Incubus y Protest The Hero estarán en mi top.
14. En los tours que han hecho, ¿qué respuesta han recibido de sus fans en cuanto a la presencia?
Considero que buena, ya que tú sabes si diste un buen show si después del evento la gente se acerca a ti y te hace buenos comentarios. La clave siempre será tratar de divertirte siempre que subes al escenario, y dejarte llevar. Creo firmemente que cuando la gente ve que eres honesto y puedes emanar la felicidad que te da el hecho de poder estar haciendo lo que más te gusta, la gente lo nota y la respuesta siempre será favorable.
15. La escena de México está pasando por un mal momento, hay muchas bandas que todavía no se dan a conocer, ¿qué les recomendarías?
Seamos hermanos y unidos de verdad y no solo decirlo como una moda. Eso debemos hacer todos porque el talento existe, la unión no. Lamentablemente en Tijuana es como un virus que se ha comido a toda la escena completa por estas mentalidades.
16. Para concluir la entrevista, ¿qué mensaje le enviarías a tus seguidores de Latinoamérica?
Que les agradezco infinitamente el apoyo incondicional que nos han otorgado, que no existen palabras suficientes para expresarles lo feliz que me hace saber que Cardio Kazan sigue llegando a rincones de Latinoamérica que jamás hubiéramos imaginado el día que en decidimos iniciar esta banda. Agradecerles no solo ahorita con la salida de The Baralax, si no desde que sacamos nuestro primer vídeo. Ojala nuestra música tenga un significado importante para sus vidas, porque créanme que esa es la única razón por la que estamos aquí.

1. Tell us, why the name "Cardio Kazan"?
It's a soccer story. On the first rehearsals when we were just throwing the idea that we wanted to implement this project, one day the famous “Champions League” was on TV, and the match was in Rusia, specifically in the city of Kazan. The local team was Rubin Kazan. Before the match started, they started to close up the fans at the stadium and I was struck that one of them was lifting up a scarf that had the words “Cardio Kazan” with a heart in the middle. Curiously, the narrator explained that the mean of that scarf is that the heart of that fan was with the city of Kazan or with the team.
2. A few weeks ago “The Baralax” was released, how is the response you've been getting from the fans?
Amazing!, better that we could imagine. Mostly because it took us one year to make it after having already recorded it by issues that were out of our hands, we are saying that the recording process and delivery was since january 2013, exactly a year and a half being this very worrying to us, because we didn't know if our fans would have that patience, but in the end everything has been better than we expected, we are lucky to have that enviable support which we are totally grateful.
3. What are your projects for the future, are thinking on recording a video?
Yes!, actually we've just recorded a video for a song of the new album, we hope you all like it!
4. You were the band of the month in Atasque, how do you feel that a lot of people or blogs support you with only a short time since the release of the album?
Wordless, specifically the people in Atasque has been amazing with us. There's a scene with a lot of talent in our country, but the fact that our music has reached so many ears in México being, let's say CORE different from other band's music, it has largely being reached for their help and webs such as Mexicore that has been with us since for a long time.
5. The big question, what's the technique you use for your clean vocals?
The technique has always been the breathing, but it's a fact that every voice is different. Today, I have 10 años doing any kind of singing in music and I can tell you that some myths work for some people, some techniques work for others. The reality is that you have to experiment with the limits of your voice and take the best tips and apply the one that works better when you're singing.
6. Every song is wonderful, what is the special ingredient to achieve the perfect combination?
Thanks!, that is precisely what we look for, that every song has absolutely all that we would like to hear always trying to mix everyone tastes giving a song as a result . We look for integrate that strength or power of Metalcore or Post Hardcore in every composition, not forgetting the melodic part on vocals and guitars. In our mind, we've always been very aware that CORE can be listened by any person that is not used to it. We are against stereotypes and the genres that are just dividing, in Cardio we precisely look to find a balance between heavy and melodic, between underground and commercial.
7. What's the favorite song of the band?
Hard question, because I am a Cardio Kazan fan and I like every song that we have until now, but I can tell you that In Slow Motion has a very special place for me for being the first song that we wrote as a band. From The Baralax , I really enjoy Hellion.
8. Tell us the difficulties and problems you had through the recording of the album?
A lot! but the most important one, and the reason why the album's delivery had stopped, was the Tim Lambesis legal issue in USA. It's important to know that the album was recorded in LAMBESIS STUDIOS, where the As I Lay Dying ex-vocalist was the owner. Our recording was holded by the authorities, because they were investigating everything that had a relation with him, that was the primmary problem.
9. You had very important collaborations, how does it feel to work with bands such as Adestria or TRJA?
A true honor, it couldn't be anything else. For example, I'm telling you that I was obsessed with Face Down by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus for years and in that time was one of the favorites to warm up before our rehearsals. Having such talented people that has done so many things in their musical careers in our project is priceless. Knowing that human part is the most important in the moment that you are working with us and realizing they're amazing musicians, but better people..
10.Tell us how “The Baralax” born, what ideas motivate you to create something so cool?
When we took the desicion to record our first record, after 2 EP’S we had a lot of reunions where we talked about what idea we wanted to manage in the new songs, what we wanted to implement this time and what direction we wanted for Cardio Kazan, that was the biggest and most important step for us as musicians. In the end we decided that, having as reference the songs that we had good response, we had to evolve without losing our essence that has define us since day one. We didn't want to sound like a completely different band, if we didn't want to grow musically, our sound would get more mature. We took 4 months writing the songs working every day, polishing every detail that we considered had to explode, and finally there is the result. I can tell you that, for us, “Euphoria” is the song that defines what we were searching for. An evolution as a band, without losing our roots that had allow us to reach so many ears.
11. What's the message behind “The Baralax” lyrics?
The Baralax is the result of a lot of eperiences, good and bad, from me and from the people I love. Since the band's foundation the lyrics idea is an ambiguous result, because if you analyze them, you'll see that all of them are written like telling or relating a trailer for some movie ( I'm a films fan). All the lyrics are written with an introduction, plot and conclusion of a mini movie in a little more than 3 and a half minutes. In these “trailers” I expose experiences as metaphors trying to left my thoughts and situations I've lived or I've been on.
For example, Ultraviolet Suspension seems like a trailer from some science fiction movie for metaphors and references I use, when I'm really describing my grandmother's death in my mother's eyes.
I remember that for Colossal, I had in my mind a Stanley Kubrick film that I had recently watched when I was writing it. You'll see references from planets and astronomical effects and some other different themes as metaphors to talk that wiithout bad eperiences, bad situations in life we would never learn to be in this world, nor the reason why we are alive, that fall down for the things that happen to us, either big or small situations, it's an offense and waste to this wonderful creation that we are.
12. In the future, with what bands would you like to play?
Honestly with all of them, we will have the big opportunity of being in different cities in some weeks and share stage with a lot of mexican bands that we haven't had the opportunity to play with, as well as see some amazing friends that we have found in the road since our first tour.
13. In the genre, what bands influence you and the band?
A lot to be honest, but Senses Fail, Saosin, Incubus and Protest The Hero are alays going to be on my top.
14. On tours you've been and talking about presence, how's the response of the fans?
I think it's good, because you know if you give a good show if after the event the people comes to you and makes good comments. The key will always be trying to have fun everytime you're on stage, and let yourself go. I firmly think that when people see that you're honest and you can emanate the happiness that gives you the fact of being doing what you like the most, people sees that and the response will be always positive.
15. The mexican scene it's going through a bad moment, there are a lot of bands that aren't well known yet, what would you recommend them?
Let's be brothers and truly united and not only say it as a fashion. We all need to do that because talent exists,not unity. Unfortunately in Tijuana it's like a virus that has eaten the whole scene because these mentalities.
16. To finish this interview, what would you say to your Latinamerican fans?
That I thank you infinitely your inconditional support that you have gave us, that there aren't enough words to express how happy makes me now that Cardio Kazan keeps reaching some Latinamerican corners that we would never imagine the day we decide to start this band. Thank you not only now with The Baralax release, but since we released our first video. Hopefully our music has an important meaning for your lives, because believe me that's the only one reason we are here.

15. La escena de México está pasando por un mal momento, hay muchas bandas que todavía no se dan a conocer, ¿qué les recomendarías?
Seamos hermanos y unidos de verdad y no solo decirlo como una moda. Eso debemos hacer todos porque el talento existe, la unión no. Lamentablemente en Tijuana es como un virus que se ha comido a toda la escena completa por estas mentalidades.
16. Para concluir la entrevista, ¿qué mensaje le enviarías a tus seguidores de Latinoamérica?
Que les agradezco infinitamente el apoyo incondicional que nos han otorgado, que no existen palabras suficientes para expresarles lo feliz que me hace saber que Cardio Kazan sigue llegando a rincones de Latinoamérica que jamás hubiéramos imaginado el día que en decidimos iniciar esta banda. Agradecerles no solo ahorita con la salida de The Baralax, si no desde que sacamos nuestro primer vídeo. Ojala nuestra música tenga un significado importante para sus vidas, porque créanme que esa es la única razón por la que estamos aquí.
1. Tell us, why the name "Cardio Kazan"?
It's a soccer story. On the first rehearsals when we were just throwing the idea that we wanted to implement this project, one day the famous “Champions League” was on TV, and the match was in Rusia, specifically in the city of Kazan. The local team was Rubin Kazan. Before the match started, they started to close up the fans at the stadium and I was struck that one of them was lifting up a scarf that had the words “Cardio Kazan” with a heart in the middle. Curiously, the narrator explained that the mean of that scarf is that the heart of that fan was with the city of Kazan or with the team.
2. A few weeks ago “The Baralax” was released, how is the response you've been getting from the fans?
Amazing!, better that we could imagine. Mostly because it took us one year to make it after having already recorded it by issues that were out of our hands, we are saying that the recording process and delivery was since january 2013, exactly a year and a half being this very worrying to us, because we didn't know if our fans would have that patience, but in the end everything has been better than we expected, we are lucky to have that enviable support which we are totally grateful.
3. What are your projects for the future, are thinking on recording a video?
Yes!, actually we've just recorded a video for a song of the new album, we hope you all like it!
4. You were the band of the month in Atasque, how do you feel that a lot of people or blogs support you with only a short time since the release of the album?
Wordless, specifically the people in Atasque has been amazing with us. There's a scene with a lot of talent in our country, but the fact that our music has reached so many ears in México being, let's say CORE different from other band's music, it has largely being reached for their help and webs such as Mexicore that has been with us since for a long time.
5. The big question, what's the technique you use for your clean vocals?
The technique has always been the breathing, but it's a fact that every voice is different. Today, I have 10 años doing any kind of singing in music and I can tell you that some myths work for some people, some techniques work for others. The reality is that you have to experiment with the limits of your voice and take the best tips and apply the one that works better when you're singing.
6. Every song is wonderful, what is the special ingredient to achieve the perfect combination?
Thanks!, that is precisely what we look for, that every song has absolutely all that we would like to hear always trying to mix everyone tastes giving a song as a result . We look for integrate that strength or power of Metalcore or Post Hardcore in every composition, not forgetting the melodic part on vocals and guitars. In our mind, we've always been very aware that CORE can be listened by any person that is not used to it. We are against stereotypes and the genres that are just dividing, in Cardio we precisely look to find a balance between heavy and melodic, between underground and commercial.
7. What's the favorite song of the band?
Hard question, because I am a Cardio Kazan fan and I like every song that we have until now, but I can tell you that In Slow Motion has a very special place for me for being the first song that we wrote as a band. From The Baralax , I really enjoy Hellion.
8. Tell us the difficulties and problems you had through the recording of the album?
A lot! but the most important one, and the reason why the album's delivery had stopped, was the Tim Lambesis legal issue in USA. It's important to know that the album was recorded in LAMBESIS STUDIOS, where the As I Lay Dying ex-vocalist was the owner. Our recording was holded by the authorities, because they were investigating everything that had a relation with him, that was the primmary problem.
9. You had very important collaborations, how does it feel to work with bands such as Adestria or TRJA?
A true honor, it couldn't be anything else. For example, I'm telling you that I was obsessed with Face Down by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus for years and in that time was one of the favorites to warm up before our rehearsals. Having such talented people that has done so many things in their musical careers in our project is priceless. Knowing that human part is the most important in the moment that you are working with us and realizing they're amazing musicians, but better people..
10.Tell us how “The Baralax” born, what ideas motivate you to create something so cool?
When we took the desicion to record our first record, after 2 EP’S we had a lot of reunions where we talked about what idea we wanted to manage in the new songs, what we wanted to implement this time and what direction we wanted for Cardio Kazan, that was the biggest and most important step for us as musicians. In the end we decided that, having as reference the songs that we had good response, we had to evolve without losing our essence that has define us since day one. We didn't want to sound like a completely different band, if we didn't want to grow musically, our sound would get more mature. We took 4 months writing the songs working every day, polishing every detail that we considered had to explode, and finally there is the result. I can tell you that, for us, “Euphoria” is the song that defines what we were searching for. An evolution as a band, without losing our roots that had allow us to reach so many ears.
11. What's the message behind “The Baralax” lyrics?
The Baralax is the result of a lot of eperiences, good and bad, from me and from the people I love. Since the band's foundation the lyrics idea is an ambiguous result, because if you analyze them, you'll see that all of them are written like telling or relating a trailer for some movie ( I'm a films fan). All the lyrics are written with an introduction, plot and conclusion of a mini movie in a little more than 3 and a half minutes. In these “trailers” I expose experiences as metaphors trying to left my thoughts and situations I've lived or I've been on.
For example, Ultraviolet Suspension seems like a trailer from some science fiction movie for metaphors and references I use, when I'm really describing my grandmother's death in my mother's eyes.
I remember that for Colossal, I had in my mind a Stanley Kubrick film that I had recently watched when I was writing it. You'll see references from planets and astronomical effects and some other different themes as metaphors to talk that wiithout bad eperiences, bad situations in life we would never learn to be in this world, nor the reason why we are alive, that fall down for the things that happen to us, either big or small situations, it's an offense and waste to this wonderful creation that we are.
12. In the future, with what bands would you like to play?
Honestly with all of them, we will have the big opportunity of being in different cities in some weeks and share stage with a lot of mexican bands that we haven't had the opportunity to play with, as well as see some amazing friends that we have found in the road since our first tour.
13. In the genre, what bands influence you and the band?
A lot to be honest, but Senses Fail, Saosin, Incubus and Protest The Hero are alays going to be on my top.
14. On tours you've been and talking about presence, how's the response of the fans?
I think it's good, because you know if you give a good show if after the event the people comes to you and makes good comments. The key will always be trying to have fun everytime you're on stage, and let yourself go. I firmly think that when people see that you're honest and you can emanate the happiness that gives you the fact of being doing what you like the most, people sees that and the response will be always positive.
15. The mexican scene it's going through a bad moment, there are a lot of bands that aren't well known yet, what would you recommend them?
Let's be brothers and truly united and not only say it as a fashion. We all need to do that because talent exists,not unity. Unfortunately in Tijuana it's like a virus that has eaten the whole scene because these mentalities.
16. To finish this interview, what would you say to your Latinamerican fans?
That I thank you infinitely your inconditional support that you have gave us, that there aren't enough words to express how happy makes me now that Cardio Kazan keeps reaching some Latinamerican corners that we would never imagine the day we decide to start this band. Thank you not only now with The Baralax release, but since we released our first video. Hopefully our music has an important meaning for your lives, because believe me that's the only one reason we are here.
