Entrevista: "Sean Harmanis" Vocalista de Make Them Suffer

Hemos realizado una entrevista a Sean Harmanis Vocalista de Make Them Suffer, donde cuenta todo acerca de "Neverbloom" y sobre el nuevo álbum que se aproxima. Esta es una banda que se ha caracterizado por la brutalidad en cada uno de sus tracks, en la entrevista nos habla acerca de cosas muy importantes, ¿quieren saber más? Pasen a leerla. 1. Háblanos un poco acerca de "Neverbloom".

"Neverbloom" fue nuestro primer lanzamiento de larga duración. Es básicamente una continuación de la historia en Lord of Woe. El sonido es symphonic/blackened deathcore y dibuja influencias de bandas como Suicide Silence, Dark Funeral, Dimmu Borgir, Belphegor, Emmure, Wolves In The Throne Room y The Acacia Strain.

2. Cuéntanos, ¿cuál fue tu inspiración para escribir las letras de "Neverbloom"?, por qué la tristeza, decepción y desamor en el álbum?

Siempre he sentido que la música debe ser vista como expresionismo creativo, si tu estás escribiendo para alguien más que no sea para ti mismo y expresas el cómo te sientes, entonces lo estás haciendo mal según mi criterio. (Sólo una opinión). Ciertamente yo proyecto el dolor y las penas que he sentido en el pasado pero eso es solamente expresarme a mi mismo. Siempre he sentido que la forma más pura de expresión en la música es cuando la gente expresa sus inseguridades y tristeza. Fui influenciado por las canciones y letras de bandas como Wolves In The Throne Room, Burzum, Meshuggah y Despised Icon. También obtengo influencias de películas como Princess Mononoke, The Lord Of The Rings, A Scanner Darkly y muchas más.

3. "Let Me In" es uno de mis tracks favoritos, dime, ¿cuál fue tu motivación para escribir y grabar el track?

Sólo queríamos dar un paso atrás y crear una canción bastante fuerte que nos expresara a nosotros mismos, sin preocuparnos por cosas tales como ser demasiado originales o apegarse a algún guión o idea. La canción no es tan conceptual como pistas anteriores pero sí mantiene parte de la historia para nuestro próximo álbum. Se trata de una ruptura amorosa que tuve recientemente.

4. ¿Quieres decirnos cuándo tendremos el nuevo álbum de MTS?

Esperamos que a inicios o a mediados del año que viene, pero vamos a tener muchas cosas nuevas para mostrar antes!

5. ¿Algunas pistas de cómo será el próximo álbum?

Al estilo Make Them Suffer. Sólo estamos afinando algunas cosas en nuestro trabajo y tratando de empujar nuestro sonido en todas las direcciones.

6. ¿El nuevo sencillo es solamente un detalle para un nuevo sonido que nos propone la banda?

En realidad no, es probablemente la pista más suave en el álbum. Todo el álbum se pega bastante a cómo sonamos en "Neverbloom".

7. La gran pregunta de todos sus seguidores, ¿dejarán a un lado los blast beats y el blackened dando lugar a un nuevo sonido?

De ninguna manera, en algunas de nuestras canciones en realidad estamos acelerando el tempo así que es más extremo.

8. ¿Cuál es tu técnica vocal favorita? ¿Cómo haces para sonar tan fresco y a la vez tan intenso? Dinos tu secreto.

Bueno, yo he escuchado de las personas que mis highs screams sobresalen por mi alcance, lo que utilizo es la técnica "fry". es básicamente un high scream orientado como gutural/diafragma.

9. El sonido que "Louisa Burton" nos brinda en los teclados es fantástico, ese sonido es una combinación perfecta cuando tenemos voces muy agresivas. ¿Cómo nació esa idea en la banda?

Siempre hemos tenido teclado desde el principio, pero eran un poco más strings/synths. No fue hasta que se lanzó el single "The Eternal Cold" que decidimos incorporar el piano. Cuando decidimos usar el piano como instrumento principal, fue porque en ese momento estábamos tocando con sólo un guitarrista y necesitábamos que algo tomara el lugar de una melodía principal.

10. Para finalizar la entrevista envíales un mensaje a tus seguidores de toda Latinoamérica.

1. Tell us something about "Neverbloom".

"Neverbloom" was our first full length release. It's basically a continuation of the storyline of Lord of Woe. The sound is symphonic/blackened deathcore and draws influences from bands such as Suicide Silence, Dark Funeral, Dimmu Borgir, Belphegor, Emmure, Wolves In The Throne Room and The Acacia Strain.

2. Tell us, what was your inspiration for writing the lyrics in "Neverbloom"? Why the sadness, disappointment and heartbreak in the album?

I've always felt that music should be seen as creative expressionism, if you're writing for anything else other than yourself and expressing the ways you feel then you're doing it wrong in my book (just an opinion). Certainly I do draw from the pain and heartache i've felt in the past but that's just expressing myself. I've always felt the purest form of expression in music is when people express their insecurities and sadness. I was influenced by lyrics from bands such as Wolves In The Throne Room, Burzum, Meshuggah and Despised Icon. I also draw influence from movies such as Princess Mononoke, The Lord Of The Rings, A Scanner Darkly and many more.

3. "Let Me In" is one of my favorite tracks, Tell me what was your motivation to write and record this one?

We just wanted to take a step back and create a real raw track that expressed ourselves, not worrying about things such as being overly original or sticking to any guidelines or ideas. The track is not as conceptual as previous tracks but it does hold a spot in the storyline for the next album coming out soon. It was about a breakup I went through recently.

4. Do you want to tell us when we'll have the new MTS album?

It's looking to be early-mid next year but we'll have plenty of stuff to show before then!

5. Give us some hints of what we'll hear in the new album?

It's still Make Them Suffer. We're just honing in on our craft and trying to push our sound in all directions.

6. Is the new single only a detail for a new sound that the band will offers us?

Not really, it's probably the softest track on the album. The whole album will be sticking fairly closely to how we sound on "Neverbloom".

7. The big question of all your followers. Will you leave the blast beats and blackened to a new sound taking place?

No way, in some of our songs we're actually pushing up the tempo so that it's even more extreme.

8. What is your favorite vocal technique? How do you manage to sound so fresh and so intense at the same time? Tell us your secret.

Well I've heard from people that my highs are a standout of my range, which I use the fry technique for. It's basically a guttural/diaphragm orientated high scream.

9. The sound that Louisa Burton brings on keyboards is fantastic, the sound is a perfect combination when we have very aggressive vocals. How that idea was born in the band?

We always had keys when we started, but they were more just strings/synths. It wasn't until we released the single "The Eternal Cold" that we decided to incorporate piano. At the time we decided to use the piano as a lead, because at the time we were playing with only one guitarist so we needed something to take the place of a lead melody.
