Saud Ahmed siempre ha sido uno de mis screamers favoritos, desde sus inicios allá por 2007 con The Crimson Armada hasta estos días con lo nuevo de The Holy Guile, me es un honor presentarles a todos ustedes lectores de Atasque esto, ya que conseguimos hacerle unas cuantas preguntas en las cuales nos cuenta un poco acerca de lo que ha sido su vida, personal y profesional. Cuéntanos sobre ti, ¿Qué hace Saud Ahmed aparte de ser cantante?
Saud - Grabo y produzco a bandas. Estoy enamorado de mi mejor amiga Erica. Tengo dos perros; un labrador negro, Denzel, y un labrador amarillo, Bear. Negro y amarillo hijo.
¿Cómo fue la historia de The Crimson Armada?
Saud - Fue una gran experiencia. Aprendí mucho acerca de la industria de la música, la gente, el amor y la compasión.
Conviction no fue realmente lo que se esperaba, alcanzó tus expectativas?
Saud - Totalmente. Cuando escribí ese álbum, puse cada pulgada de mi alma en el. Me quedaba despierto hasta las 8 o 9 de la mañana cada día, escribiendo riffs, grabando la pre-producción, cambiando letras, hice tantas versiones de cada canción antes de decidir cuales partes quería conservar. Me obsesioné. Amé a ese álbum como se ama a un hijo. Aunque no creo en la mayoría de las cosas que escribí en ese álbum, lo sigo apreciando porque representa mi inocencia. Era tan ingenuo cuando lo escribí que ahora cuando lo escucho recuerdo como creía de todo corazón aunque ciegamente en algo de lo cual no tenía pruebas. Ese álbum fue el trampolín a cosas mucho mejores. Tengo cero arrepentimientos y más bien estoy muy agradecido de que eso pasó porque a través de ese álbum aprendí muchas lecciones de vida que tal vez no hubiera aprendido de otra manera. Es algo así como cuando una novia te rompe el corazón. Todos como que necesitan pasar eso al menos una vez para aprender a ser más maduro y fuerte en el futuro. Conviction tiene un lugar especial en mi corazón.
Sabíamos que al principio The Holy Guile era solo un proyecto, pero The Crimson Armada seguía siendo una banda en ese entonces, ¿Ya tenías la idea de hacer a THG una banda de tiempo completo?
Saud - Honestamente, no. El último baterista de Crimson me animó a convertir THG en una banda de tiempo completo mientras seguíamos de tour a inicios del 2012 por la oportunidad que presentaba y que tan bien el EP fue recibido. Al principio yo me negaba por que Crimson era como mi bebé.
Leí la publicación donde escribiste que tus 'puntos de vista religiosos' cambiaron, ¿A qué te refieres con eso?
Saud - Significa que el único cuento de hadas en el que creo es en el cual me caso con mi novia y la hago mi princesa.
Muchos fans se lo tomaron personal y ahora están disgustados contigo, ¿Qué les dirías?
Saud - Eso apesta y eso pasa cuando idolatras a la gente. No soy perfecto y nunca lo seré. Lamento mucho haber decepcionado a mucha gente e hice una declaración pública haciéndolo. Pero si tú y tus amigos comen tacos de vez en cuando y un día a algunos de tus amigos les dejan de gustar los tacos ¿Te enojarías con ellos porque ya no les gustan los tacos?
¿Cómo lo tomaron los otros miembros de TCA?
Saud - Quedamos todos en buenos términos. Cuando la banda terminó todos sentíamos que era lo que se tenía que hacer.
FSU es el primer álbum de THG y creo está teniendo una buena recepción, ¿Cómo se siente eso?
Saud - Es estimulante saber que mi trabajo duro y el esclavizarme en el estudio de mi sótano está finalmente dando frutos. Al fin tenemos la alineación completa y la gente está animada para vernos. También estoy muy emocionado por cantar. Los chicos que juntamos fue algo milagroso y todos sobresalen en su instrumento. Rodarán cabezas seguramente.
¿Qué podemos esperar en un futuro?
Saud - Más temas y muchos shows. No importa de dónde seas, nos veremos pronto.
Tienen una montón de gente en Latinoamérica que los sigue y apoya, ¿Hay planes para visitarnos?
Saud - Tal vez tengamos algo bajo la manga ;)
También, hay muchas bandas viniendo con cosas increíbles, pero en ocasiones se ahogan en la espera, ¿Qué les dirías?
Saud - Estar en una banda es la cosa más estresante pero más remunerable que existe. Te puede llevar a lugares y enseñarte lecciones que nunca pensarías aprender. Mi consejo es matarse trabajando por lo que crees, ser humilde y fumar hierba.

Tell us something about you, What Saud Ahmed does besides being a singer?
Saud - I produce and record bands. I'm in love with my best friend Erica. I have two dogs; a black labrador, Denzel, and a yellow labrador, Bear. Black and yellow son.
How was the history of The Crimson Armada?
Saud - It was a great experience. I learned a lot about the music industry, people, love, and compassion.
Conviction wasn't really what we all expected, it reached your expectations?
Saud - Completely. When i wrote that album, I poured every inch of my soul into it. I stayed up until 8 or 9 in the morning every day, writing riffs, recorded the pre-production, changing lyrics. I went through many versions of each song before I decided which parts i wanted to keep. I became obsessed with it. I love that album like I love a child. Although I do not believe in most of the things i wrote on that album, I still cherish it because it represents my innocence. I was so naive when I wrote it and when I listen to it now i remember how I once wholeheartedly albeit blindly believed in something i had no proof of. That album was the stepping stone to much greater things. I have zero regrets and rather I am so thankful that it happened because through that album I learned many life lessons that I may not have learned otherwise. Its kinda like getting your heart broken by a girlfriend. Everyone kinda needs to go through it at least once so you learn to be more mature and stronger in the future. Conviction has a special place in my heart.
We know that in the beginning The Holy Guile was just a side-project, but The Crimson Armada was still being a band at that moment, you already had the idea of getting THG into a full time band?
Saud - Honestly, no. Crimson's last drummer encouraged me to pursue THG full time while we were still touring early 2012 because of the opportunity it presented and how well the EP was received. I was reluctant at first because Crimson was like my baby.
I have read the statement you wrote that your 'religion point of views' had changed, what do you really mean with that?
Saud - It means the only fairy tale I believe in is the one where I marry my girlfriend and make her my princess.
Several fans took it personal and now are really mad with you, what would you tell them?
Saud - That sucks and thats what happens when you idolize people. I am not perfect and I will never be. I am sorry I let a lot of people down and i released a public statement doing so. But if you and your friends ate tacos every other day and one day one of your friends didnt like tacos anymore would you be mad at them for not liking tacos anymore?
How the other members of TCA took it?
Saud - We are all on great terms. When the band ended we all felt that it was the right thing to do.
FSU is the first full length album out by THG and I think it's getting quite nice reception, how do you feel about that?
Saud - It is refreshing to know my hard work and slaving away in my basement studio is finally paying off. We finally have a full lineup put together and people are really pumped to see us. I am really stoked to perform as well. The guys we put together happened almost miraculously and everyone excels at their instrument. Heads will be turned for sure.
What we can expect in the future?
Saud: More tunes and lots of shows. Doesnt matter where your from, we'll see you soon.
You have a nice bunch of people that follows and supports you all over Latinamerica, any plans to visit us?
Saud - We may have something up our sleeve ;)
Also, there are so much bands coming with incredible things, but sometimes they drown in the waiting, what would you say to them?
Saud - Being in a band is like one of the most stressful but most rewarding things ever. It can take you places and teach you lessons you never thought you would learn. My advice is to work your ass off for what you believe in, be humble and smoke weed.
