Es difícil abrirse un espacio respetable en la escena, y aún más complicado resulta el saber conservar ese lugar y prevalecer con el tiempo. Acá les presento a un personaje que está haciendo todo lo posible para que su nombre quede guardado en las vitrinas de la gloria, utilizando cualquier recurso que tenga a su alcance así como su notable talento, Etienne Sin tiene muy claras sus metas y está motivado a poder lograrlas. Los dejo con una entrevista que con toda la amabilidad del mundo nos dió oportunidad de realizar.

Etienne Sin es un artista solista de la comunidad hardcore. sigue una ética de "Hazlo Tú Mismo" tocando cada instrumento, haciendo toda la producción de audio, y todas las producciones de video. Aparte de ser músico, opera algunos negocios tales como The Sin Circle Records, Moshing Pit Clothing, y Sin Studios.
- ¿Cómo te iniciaste en la industria musical?
Inicié en 2005, pero creo que se podría decir que fue en 1995. Cuando tomé un instrumento por primera vez. Fui entrenado desde niño para ser músico, porque mis problemas de salud no me permitían participar e nactividades físicas como los deportes. Como asmático, mis padres siempre pusieron a la música frente a mi antes que todo. A través de los años, he estado estudiando guitarra, piano, batería, y vocales.
En 2005, Empecé seriamente a tomar el control de mi carrera musical acumulando experiencia siendo guitarrista rítmico de algunas bandas. To qué en bandas que suenan a Blackened Death Metal, bandas como Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir, etc.
Con el tiempo, me metí en música más ligera y me uní a bandas que sonaban como Underoath. Desde ahi, aprendí muchas tácticas de la industria y cosas así. Por el 2010, renuncié a todos los proyectos en los que estaba y lanzé mi propia carrera como solista, la cual creo está siendo un éxito hasta ahora.
- ¿Qué te inspira a hacer lo que haces?
Yo diría que la vida me inspira. Hay muchas cosas que me sacan de la cama a diario, pero personalmente creo que es el "hambre" de querer más de la vida. Desde que era niño, he aprendido que obtener un trabajo de 9 a 5 probablemente no es la mejor manera de pasar el corto tiempo que es la "vida". Si trabajara por algo, sería por mi y sería algo que ame hacer. Así que la mitad es satisfacción personal y hacer algo que pueda mantener a mi futura familia. La otra mitad es el placer al ver a otras personas cuando escuchan mi música. Cuando vienen niños y me dicen "tu música salvó mi vida" o "tu música me ayudo en mi pelea contra el cáncer" ese tipo de cosas me hacen estar tan orgulloso de lo que hago.
- ¿En algún momento ha sido difícil?
Mierda, siempre es difícil. cada momento de despertar es un desafío. La gente no tiene idea de realmente cuan competitiva es la industria y el mercado hasta que están ahi por si mismos. Convertirse en un nombre reconocido en la escena es la cosa más difícil, porque todas las bandas se esfuerzan por la misma cantidad de atención. La mayoría de los sellos discográficos, compañías de administración, y organizaciones de la industria son como un "club de sólo miembros," siendo que si no estás invitado, no eres bienvenido. si no satisfaces a la industria con los números que demuestren lo que puedes hacer por ellos, no te dan ni un momento de su tiempo. Sin decir que TODOS son así, sólo la mayoría.
Pero, siempre digo "si la tarea es difícil, crece para ser más grande que el problema que enfrentas." Básicamente significa que si hay un problema, haz todo para triunfar o muere intentándolo. Así que con The Sin Circle Records, trato de construir una platforma para que todos tengan éxito incluso si no tienen una invitación de nosotros. A pesar de eso te ayudaremos a superarte.
- ¿Qué artistas te influencian?
Odio decir que otros "artistas" influyen en lo que hago, por lo que normalmente me desvió de esta pregunta. Es como-que los que me apoyan son los que en realidad influyen en mi. Así que no puedo decir que no estoy para nada influenciado, porque lo estoy. Días atrás, bandas como Underoath, Aiden, The Devil Wears Prada, y Alesana hicieron su parte al influenciar mi estilo musical. Más recientemente, bandas como A Skylit Drive y The Word Alive han sido algunas de mis favoritas.
Cuando se trata del lado del negocio de la industria, no veo a la música rock para nada. Veo a los magnates del hip-hop como 50 Cent y Rick Ross. Estos chicos sí saben lo que hacen en su respectiva escena musical. Ahora mismo, en 2013, Personalmente y EN SERIO me agrada Paramore y Bring Me The Horizon. Nuevamente, hacer un tour es mi prioridad. así que estaré de tour con todas las bandas de mi sello. Personalmente quiero ser un magnate de la música hardcore y metal. - Como todos sabemos, tu música no es la más "aceptada" en la escena hardcore y a ti no te importa mucho, ¿Qué piensas de eso y qué le dirías a los haters?
Creo que no es aceptada sólo porque es diferente. Musicalmente, no es tan diferente de la de otros chicos, pero dentro de los reinos de la "imagen" y "representación" es masivamente diferente. Así que la gente es veloz para juzgar al "hombre en discordia." Todo lo que es nuevo es bombardeado así, pero lo bueno siempre supera a lo malo.
No le diría nada a los haters. veámoslo así, lso haters no comprarían nada ni apoyarían tu carrera en lo más mínimo, entonces, ¿Para qué darles poder diciéndoles algo? Ya tengo una legión de seguidores que aman lo que hago y yo los quiero de igual manera. ELLOS son las personas con las que me tomaré el tiempo para hablar, no con los haters.
Además, Creo que la música es como algo que te obliga a opinar. Estés clasificado o no, tendrás algo qué decir sobre cierto artista o banda. Así que a quién le importa, Le presto mi tiempo a la gente que cree en mi. Si eres uno de mis haters, o estás conmigo, o en mi camino. Si estás en mi camino, te sobrepasaré totalmente.

Etienne Sin
Etienne Sin is a solo artist within the hardcore community. He follows a very DIY work ethic by playing all of the instruments, doing all of the audio production, and all of the video productions. Other than being a musician, he operates a few businesses such as The Sin Circle Records, Moshing Pit Clothing, and Sin Studios.
- How did you start in the music industry?
I started back in 2005, but I guess you could say I started back in 1995. That is when I first picked up an instrument. I was trained since a child to be a musician, only because my health issues didn't allow me to participate in any physical activities like sports. As an asthmatic, my parents always put music in front of me before anything. Throughout the years, I've been studying guitar, piano, drums, and vocals.
In 2005, I started to seriously take control of my music career by racking up experience by joining a few bands as rhythm guitarist. I played in bands that sound like Blackened Death Metal, bands like Behemoth, Dimmu Borgir, etc.
Over time, I got into lighter music and joined bands that sounded like Underoath. From there, I learned a bunch of industry tactics and things like that. By the year 2010, I quit all of the projects I was in to launch my own solo career, which I think has been a success so far.
- What inspires you to do what you do?
I'd like to say that life inspires me. There is plenty that gets me out of bed each day, but I personally think it's the "hunger" to want more out of life. Since I was a kid, I've learned that getting a 9 to 5 job probably isn't the best way to spend the short time that is "life." If I was going to work for something, it would be for myself and it would be something that I love doing. So half of it is personal satisfaction and making something out of myself so that I can provide for my future family. The other half is the joy I see in other people when they listen to my music. When kids come up to me and say "your music has saved my life" or "your music helped me along in my fight with cancer" that kind of stuff just makes me so proud of what I do.
- Has it been difficult at some point?
Shit, it's always difficult. Each waking moment is a challenge. People have no idea how competitive the industry and markets really are until they are in it for themselves. Becoming a recognized name in the scene is the hardest thing to do, just because every band out there is striving for the same amount of attention. Most record labels, management companies, and industry organizations are like an "members only club," meaning that if you don't have the invitation, you're not welcome at all. If you don't provide the industry with the numbers to show what you can do for them, they won't even give you a moment of their time. Not saying EVERYONE is like that, just a majority.
But, I always say "if the task is difficult, grow yourself to be bigger than the problem that lies ahead." That basically means that if there is an issue, do everything to triumph over it or die trying. So with The Sin Circle Records, I'm trying to build a platform so everyone can succeed even if they don't have an invitation from us. We'll help you succeed regardless.
- What artists influence you?
I hate to say that other "artists" influence what I do, so I usually stray away from this question. It's more-so my supporters who really influence my continuation. Though I can't say that I'm not influenced at all though, because I am. Back in the day, bands like Underoath, Aiden, The Devil Wears Prada, and Alesana all played their part in influencing my musical style. More recently, bands like A Skylit Drive and The Word Alive have been some of my favorites.
When it comes to the business side of the industry, I don't look at rock music at all. I turn to hip hop moguls like 50 Cent and Rick Ross. These guys really know what their doing in their respective music scenes.
Right now, in 2013, I'm personally REALLY into Paramore and Bring Me The Horizon. Those would also be my dream collaborations. Hayley Williams is such a beast! Same goes for Oli Sykes.
- What are your plans for the near future?
Touring, releasing records from all the bands on my label, more YouTube re-makes, and making a ton of merch! I'm really looking forward to putting out a lot of records with The Sin Circle. I'll also be working on a full length release for myself at the beginning of 2014.
- If you could put together a tour, which bands would you choose and why?
Again, my first priority is touring. So I'll be touring with all the bands on my record label.
But, a DREAM tour would look like this: Etienne Sin (of course!), A Skylit Drive, The Word Alive, Alesana, Underoath, Bring Me The Horizon, and Paramore! Obviously, the music is all over the place, so it wouldn't make any sense. If I could share the stage with any of these guys, I'd be dumb happy haha.
- What are your goals as a musician?
To establish a legacy. Not only with music, but in the entire music industry. I want people to know that I did something, or tried to do something, to help the music community as a whole. I personally want to be a mogul of Hardcore and Metal music. More recently, not including a lot of the previous "rock stars," I think guys like Oli from BMTH have already reached that status. He has a massively successful clothing line and one of the biggest Metal bands around.
- As we all know, your music isn't the most "accepted" one in the hardcore scene
and you don't care that much, what do you think of that and would you say to your haters?
I think it's not accepted just because it's different. Musically, it's not so different from other guys out there, but within the realms of "image" and "portrayal" it's massively different. So people are quick to judge the "odd man out." Everything that is new gets flak like that, but the good always outweighs the bad.
I wouldn't say anything to the haters. Look at it like this, haters won't purchase anything or support your career at all, so why give them power by telling them something? I already have a legion of supporters who love what I do and I love them just as much right back. THOSE are the people that I'm going to take my time to talk to, not the haters.
Plus, I think music is a kind of thing that forces an opinion. Whether you're qualified or not, you're going to have something to say about a certain artist or band. So who really cares, I'm putting my time into the people that believe in me. If you're one of my haters, you're either with me, or in my way. If you're in my way, I'm bypassing you entirely.
