Entrevista: Scott Kennedy de Bleed From Within

Atasque tuvo la oportunidad de hacerle unas preguntas a Scott Kennedy, vocalista de Bleed From Within, donde nos habla del último álbum de la banda, "Uprising", sus influencias como vocalista, sus objetivos con la banda; entre otras cosas.

Atasque.- Empecemos hablando de "Uprising". ¿Puedes contarnos como fué el proceso de grabación y composición?

Scott Kennedy.- Cuando compusimos "Uprising", estábamos pasando por muchos problemas como banda, en los cuales no puedo entrar en detalles, pero nos impedían el poder lanzar el álbum, así que había mucha frustración y enojo en nosotros; lo cual trajo lo mejor de cada uno y nos moldió como banda. Para ese entonces estábamos listos para grabar el álbum, ya teniamos un contrato con un nuevo sello, y los problemas se habían ido y estabamos aliviados, así que la atmósfera en el estudio era increíble. Estamos muy orgullosos de "Uprising".

Atasque.- ¿Como ha sido la respuesta de los fans, hasta ahora?

Scott Kennedy.- Ha sido tan positivo, estamos impresionados por la respuesta que hemos tenido. Fuimos de gira en el Reino Unido, trés semanas después de que nuestro álbum fué lanzado y todos estaban cantando las canciones y volviéndose locos, ha sido mucho mejor de lo que esperábamos.

Atasque.- ¿Hay alguna canción en particular que signifique más para ti, en este nuevo album?.

Scott Kennedy.- Genuínamente amo todas, pero tendría que decir que el tema 1 "Colony", es acerca de nuestros fans y como esperaron por nosotros, dos años y medio no hicimos nada más que escribir el album porque es todo lo que podíamos hacer. Estábamos restringidos de poder lanzar cualquier cosa y su apoyo nos ayudó a través de esos tiempos. Ellos son quienes están haciendo nuestro sueño realidad, sin ellos no somos nada. Fué muy emocional para mi, escribir la letra del tema. Porque ellos me hacen sentir tan afortunado y privilegiado por la vida que llevo, y es todo por nuestros fans. Ellos no saben cuanto impacto tienen en nosotros.

Atasque.- ¿Cuáles son tus más grandes influencias como cantante y compositor? y ¿puedes decirnos un poco acerca de tus bandas favoritas?.

Scott Kennedy.- Mi más grande influencia tendría que ser Phil Anselmo (Pantera), ellos fueron la primera banda de metal que escuché, fué la primera vez que escuché a alguien gritar, mi mente estaba impresionada y creo que de no haberlos escuchado hay una gran posibilidad de que no existiera Bleed From Within; no seríamos una banda. Mis otras bandas favoritas serían Lamb Of God, Incubus... Me gusta todo tipo de música, siempre y cuando tenga profundidad y sea original.

Atasque.- Las descargas ilegales no ayudan a los artistas/bandas en cuestiones de dinero, pero en ocaciones los ayuda a tener más fans y a obtener más reconocimiento. ¿Estás de acuerdo con esto?.

Scott Kennedy.- Si, definitivamente. Al momento que empezamos a tener un nombre en la escena, las descargas ilegales ya sucedían; así que no nos hicimos más conocidos. Mientras las personas disfruten la música y vengan a los shows, eso es lo importante. Se trata de la pasión, no del dinero.

Atasque.- ¿Cual es la parte más difícil de hacer giras? y ¿Alguna vez has tenido alguna mala experiencia con un fan?.

Scott Kennedy.- La peor parte de hacer gira, son los pies apestosos...No, en serio, ir de gira es increíble. Es como una fiesta con tus mejores amigos, pero tienes la posibilidad de poder tocar música y convivir con personas que son muy similares a ti. Me encanta conocer a nuevas personas y ver el mundo. Nunca he tenido ninguna clase de problemas.

Atasque.- ¿Planean venir de gira a México y Sudamérica?

Scott Kennedy.- Estamos desesperados por ir a México, hemos tenido muchísimo apoyo positivo de nuestros fans de ahí, todos estos años. Es el lugar al que más deseamos ir, pero es muy difícil. Todo lo que pedimos es que esperen, sean pacientes y un día, esperemos muy pronto, estaremos ahí y tocaremos con todo el corazón para ustedes porque han esperado y han sido increíbles con nosotros, toda nuestra carrera. Los amamos demasiado.

Atasque.- ¿Que quieres lograr con Bleed From Within?

Scott Kennedy.- Quiero ver el mundo, continuar escribiendo música que nuestros fans amen, crecer como banda y hacerlo por el tiempo que nos sea posible, e ir a México está arriba en la lista.

Atasque.- Muy bien, para cerrar. ¿Que puedes decirle a todos sus fans de latinoamérica?

Scott Kennedy.- Sentimos que nos haya tomado tanto tiempo llegar ahí, pero les prometo que un día llegaremos ahí, su país es hermoso y su gente es apasionada y no podemos esperar a tocar para ustedes y después podremos tener la fiesta más grande. Los amamos chicos, nos vemos pronto.

Atasque.- Let’s start talking about “Uprising”. Can you tell us a little bit about the recording and writing process?

Scott Kennedy.- When writing Uprising, we were going through a lot of problems as a band, which I can't go into to much detail about but it was preventing us from releasing the record so there was a lot of anger and frustration in us, which brought out the best in us and shaped us as a band. By the time we were ready to record the record, we had a new record label and the problems were gone and we were very relieved, so the atmosphere in the studio was amazing. We are so proud of Uprising. 

  

Atasque.- How has it been the fans response?

Scott Kennedy.- It's been so positive, we are blown away by the response we have had, we went out on a headline tour in the uk three weeks after the record was released and everyone was singing all the words and losing their minds, it's been way better than my expectations. 

Atasque.- Is there any particular song that means more to you in this new record?

Scott Kennedy.- I genuinely love them all, but I would have to say track 1 "Colony" it's about our fans and how they waited by us for two and a half years, we did nothing apart from write the album because it's all we could do, we were restricted from releasing anything and their support carried us through those tough times, they are the ones who are making our dream come true without them we are nothing. I got very emotional writing them lyrics because they made me feel so lucky and privileged for the life that I lead, and it's all because of our fans, they underestimate how much of an impact they have on us. 

Atasque.- Which are your biggest influences as a singer and as a writter?. And can you tell us a little bit about your favorite bands? 

Scott Kennedy.- My biggest influence would have to be Phil Anselmo (Pantera), they were the first metal band I ever heard, it was the first time I had ever heard anyone scream, my mind was blown, and I believe if I didn't hear them that day there is a strong chance I would not be In Bleed From Within today, we wouldn't be a band. My other fav bands are Lamb Of God, Incubus, I love all types of music as long as it has depth and is original. 

Atasque.- Illegal downloads don't help artists/bands to make money, but sometimes it helps to get more fans, and recognition. Are you agree with this? 

Scott Kennedy.- Yes, definitely, by the time we started to make a name for ourselves illegal downloading was already happening, so we've never known any better, as long as people like the music and come to the shows that's all that's important, it's about passion not money. 

Atasque.- What’s the hardest part of touring? And Have you ever had any bad experiences with a fan?

Scott Kennedy.- The worst part of touring is smelly feet, no, really touring is awesome it's like a holiday with your best friends, but you get to play music and hang out with people who are very similar to you, I love meeting new people and seeing the world. No I've never had any problems. 

Atasque.- Are you planning to do a Mexico/Southamerican tour? 

Scott Kennedy.- We are desperate to come over to Mexico, we have had a lot of positive feedback from our fans there over the years, it's the one place we want to come to most, but it's very hard to get there, all we can ask is you hold on, be patient and one day hopefully very soon we will be there and we will play our hearts out for you guys because you have waited and been awesome to us for most of our career. We love you guys so much. 

Atasque.- What do you want to achieve with BFW? 

Scott Kennedy.- I want to see the world, continue to write music that our fans love, grow as a band and do it for as long as we possibly can, oh and come to Mexico is high up the list. 

Atasque.- All right man, to close off, what can you tell to all of your latin fans? 

Scott Kennedy.- We are sorry it's taking so Long for us to get there, but I promise one day we will be there, your country is beautiful and your people are so passionate and I can't wait to play for you and then we can have the biggest party, I love you guys, see you soon.
